Going Paleo for 30 Days

I completed the 28 Fast Metabolism Diet and did not cheat at all. It was not the most pleasant experience, dieting never is. But I walked away from it 10 lbs. lighter. So to me, it was worth it.

Oh No, Not Again
I then attempted the maintenance stage. However, the scale started tipping in the wrong direction almost immediately. Grrrr.... What is a woman who still has 30 lbs. to go supposed to do? I can tell you for sure it isn't staying on the FMD long term. I did mention it wasn't the best experience for me, right?

Now What?
So I decided to do some self reflection and think about what has helped me with weight loss in the past. Trust me, I am an experienced dieter. And therein lies the problem. I desperately need to get off the diet train. I have no problem losing weight. I also have no problem gaining it all back, plus some.

But one lifestyle change did help me significantly before and didn't feel like a diet - eating Paleo. I pondered that for a few days, switched to 99% …

Dash Diet PDF Book

I appreciate the information that my doctor gave me about DASH. But I am the kind of person who has to keep doing research on a topic until I feel like I know what I need to know. Fortunately for me I found Your Guide to Lowering Your Blood Pressure with DASH as soon as I started searching. It is a 64 page booklet by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Pressure Institute (NHLBI). These are the folks who actually conducted studies and put the diet together. So, this book is directly from the source.

1500 All the Way
Instead of spending additional time looking for more info on DASH, I am going to use the information in the booklet to make some positive changes in my eating habits. I get that the main culprits of high blood pressure are too much salt in  your diet and not enough exercise. Your Guide to Lowering Your Blood Pressure with DASH does a great job of showing you how to lower your daily intake of sodium to 2300 mg or 1500 mg a day. Since I currently have elevated blood pressure and I'm an African-American, I am going for the latter.

Should I?
I have already printed the DASH diet PDF book and I am trying to decide if I will follow the week long DASH eating plan in the book. That will require buying a lot of foods that I normally don't. But that's the whole point, isn't it? LOL. I need to start buying and eating different foods than I usually do. OK. I just convinced myself to give the menu a try.

Time to Start Cooking
This will involve fixing at least two different meals, at least at dinner time. I can probably serve a lot of these dishes to my children and they will enjoy them. But I want to make sure to keep cooking to my husband's taste. When I wrote that article back in 2006 I was a very conscientious eater. But over the years I have adapted to how my husband likes his food, mainly to make cooking less complicated.

But I'm not talking myself out of this. I don't mind spending a little more time in the kitchen to improve my health.

How to Clean a Hamilton Beach Juicer

I bought the Hamilton Beach 67650 Big Mouth Pro Juice Extractor, and I am so glad I did. Besides being a great juicer, it is not a monster to clean at all! I can say with confidence that as long as you clean it AS SOON AS YOU ARE FINISHED juicing then you won't find clean up challenging. Let me show you how easy it is to clean this juicer.

I try to make sure that I have a clear sink after the last meal is finished. That way, I do not have to spend time having dishes washed when I am ready to juice. I run hot, soapy water in the sink before I begin juicing.

And then I get to juicing.

When I'm done I pour my juice into a glass.
What can I tell you? Big hair = big heart!

I cover the glass with plastic wrap, and set it in the freezer.
I NEVER drink my juice until after I clean my juicer. EVER! I know this will save me the heartache of having to deal with a filthy gunky juicer.

Next, I scrape the pulp into a container for later use, or discard it. I didn't think you'd w…

Christian Weight Loss Bible Study

Today I found a christian weight loss Bible study that I am really excited about. Not only does the course look good, it is also free. It is called The Lord’s Table and the study is from Setting Captives Free Ministries.

Despite the price of the course (which is nothing) you get quite a bit. Each day you are taken through some passages of scripture, you answer some study questions, and a few testimonials are shared with you. You are even assigned a mentor so that you have accountability when going through the christian weight loss Bible study. Your mentor will stay in touch with you weekly and is available to answer any questions that you may have.

Previous Experience
I did use biblical principles once before to lose 65 lbs. and I kept it off for a few years. But then I went to Air Force basic training and my relationship with food got completely out of whack again. Being denied food, forced to scarf down complete meals in 3 minutes, and not being able to eat past 4 pm (e…

Healing Scriptures Online in Audio

Yesterday I started searching online for healing scriptures after hearing a wonderful sermon about feasting on the Word of God. That teaching made me realize that I needed to take stronger action against sickness and infirmities. Thank you God for medicine and for doctors. But the Great Physician already made a way for us to be healed way back at the cross.
Songs About Healing
Initially, I was looking for free songs that I could stream where someone was singing healing scripture. I didn't quite find that. But I did come across a CD by Keith Moore that contains songs about healing. You can download the entire CD for free. Well, I couldn't on my iPad but hopefully you'll be able to on the device that you're using.  But I did stream some of the songs; and, I have no doubt that listening to those over and over will increase your faith.
