Going Paleo for 30 Days

I completed the 28 Fast Metabolism Diet and did not cheat at all. It was not the most pleasant experience, dieting never is. But I walked away from it 10 lbs. lighter. So to me, it was worth it.

Oh No, Not Again
I then attempted the maintenance stage. However, the scale started tipping in the wrong direction almost immediately. Grrrr.... What is a woman who still has 30 lbs. to go supposed to do? I can tell you for sure it isn't staying on the FMD long term. I did mention it wasn't the best experience for me, right?

Now What?
So I decided to do some self reflection and think about what has helped me with weight loss in the past. Trust me, I am an experienced dieter. And therein lies the problem. I desperately need to get off the diet train. I have no problem losing weight. I also have no problem gaining it all back, plus some.

But one lifestyle change did help me significantly before and didn't feel like a diet - eating Paleo. I pondered that for a few days, switched to 99% …

Trying the Fast 5 Diet by Dr. Bert Herring

I have been on a very unhealthy roller coaster ride this past year. I can say in all honesty that I had the worst 12 months of my life - personally, spiritually, and financially. Yes, this past year provided ample opportunities to pray and press in to God. But I focused on my problems way more than I focused on Him. And no doubt, my health suffered as a result.

What!?!
Over the course of a year I have gained and lost in excess of 60 lbs, no exxageration. I am happy to report that personally things are turning around for me. I thank God for not giving up on me although there were many days when I did not rely on Him. Instead I turned to food and ballooned up or I completely lost my appetite for weeks on end and lost a crazy amount of weight.

Starting Over
About a month ago I stepped off the crazy train. I started caring again how and what I eat. I bought a pair of good sneakers and I have started power walking again, albeit not consistently. Does anyone use the phrase "power walking" anymore? Anyway, my plan is to get up before my family and walk for 40 minutes Monday through Saturday.  Then I will fix breakfast, see my husband off to work, shower, and then start the day with the children.

What's the Problem?
Since I started making changes I have been juicing and attempting portion control with much difficulty. I have also been absorbing a lot of YouTube videos of healthy recipes. Lean Body Lifestyle has some great ones. About a year and a half ago I made several of his dishes and most were really good. 

I have been OK with incorporating more fruits and vegetables into my meals. And drinking more water hasn't been an issue either. My problem has been how much food I am eating daily. The amount of calories needs to come down considerably so that I can achieve my goal of losing 20 lbs. that I put on over a 3 month period. I told you I was doing horribly before.

Sounds Good to Me
So, I am very grateful that I came across Fast 5 today. Yes, I just found it today and I am implementing it starting tomorrow! It sounds doable and a good fit for my lifestyle. And there is no reason to put it off.

Fast 5 in a Nutshell
  • Extend your overnight fast (normally it's while you're sleeping) to 19 hours.
  • Eat only between the hours of 5 pm - 10 pm daily.
  • During fasting hours only drink water or non-caloric drinks.
  • There are no food restrictions or calorie counting but eating a balanced meal with plenty of fruits and vegetables is advisable.
There's more to it, of course. But it's a pretty basic diet/lifestyle change. If you'd like you can check out the Fast 5 website and download the free ebook to find out all of the specifics of the program. There is also a forum and other helpful info on the site. The good doctor says that after the transition period you will start to see a weight loss of 1 lb. a week, possibly more if you exercise.

Christian Weight Loss Bible Study

Today I found a christian weight loss Bible study that I am really excited about. Not only does the course look good, it is also free. It is called The Lord’s Table and the study is from Setting Captives Free Ministries.

Despite the price of the course (which is nothing) you get quite a bit. Each day you are taken through some passages of scripture, you answer some study questions, and a few testimonials are shared with you. You are even assigned a mentor so that you have accountability when going through the christian weight loss Bible study. Your mentor will stay in touch with you weekly and is available to answer any questions that you may have.

Healing Scriptures Online in Audio

Yesterday I started searching online for healing scriptures after hearing a wonderful sermon about feasting on the Word of God. That teaching made me realize that I needed to take stronger action against sickness and infirmities. Thank you God for medicine and for doctors. But the Great Physician already made a way for us to be healed way back at the cross. 
Songs About Healing
Initially, I was looking for free songs that I could stream where someone was singing healing scripture. I didn't quite find that. But I did come across a CD by Keith Moore that contains songs about healing. You can download the entire CD for free. Well, I couldn't on my iPad but hopefully you'll be able to on the device that you're using.  But I did stream some of the songs; and, I have no doubt that listening to those over and over will increase your faith.
